Gone are the days of brisk trading in the silver market. Investors have become increasingly frustrated by the way they are being treated. When purchasing silver, some have had to wait months to receive their holdings, with delivery notes indicating waiting periods of up to five months. Yet when selling, they often face additional delays, having to wait several days before receiving payment.

Many investors who bought silver at peak prices of VND 100–120 million per kilogram in January are now facing a dilemma, as they both want to continue holding their positions and want to sell and accept losses in order to recover their capital.

According to a representative of the World Gold Council, Vietnam is not alone in seeking ways to mobilize gold held by households and individuals to support economic development. Many countries have explored similar approaches to unlock dormant gold resources within the economy and channel them into productive activities.

Vietnam’s gold market has experienced significant volatility in recent months. Many investors who entered the market at elevated price levels are now facing losses as gold prices have entered a period of consolidation and correction.
